If the starkly Irish name did not give it away, I hail from the Land of Saints and Scholars, Ireland. The Irish language is a strangely lyrical and at times incomprehensible approach to communication however it boasts many fantastic turns of phrase. Among them céad míle fáilte, which translates to a hundred thousand welcomes and which is exactly what I would like to offer you as a subscriber to my newsletter here on Substack.

What to expect

I have been writing about Stoicism on and off for the past eight years and would like to continue that trend here in a new format. I hope that my attempts at putting together a coherent article will provide a form of advice, a welcome distraction, or something to think about during your everyday life. As a solicitor here in the capital of Dublin my life can get a little hectic, however, I will endeavor to provide you with semi-regular content. This content will be focused on Stoicism and the ways in which I incorporate this ancient philosophy into my everyday life, among other topics.

What not to expect

If you come here looking for the meaning of life or definite answers to the worldly questions man has struggled with for millennia …… well I have news for you. You will be left sorely disappointed, as I am still grappling with many of these questions even now. What I can offer however is some hard-won words of advice, some musings on the philosophy that has changed my life, and a healthy dose of humor sprinkled in amongst the deeper thoughts.

And Finally ……..

As a reward for suffering through my writing thus far, you will be provided with even more of my musings on philosophy and the place of Stoicism in the modern-day world. A massive apology in advance for what is to come and an immense thank you for subscribing. I look forward to engaging with you all in the months ahead and as a dear old friend once told me, if even one line of one piece reaches someone out there you can deem yourself a success as a writer. Hopefully, one of you out there can help me become a successful writer in the days ahead, so let’s get started and make it happen.
